In first grade, one major goal is to teach the students to read and hopefully inspire them to be lifelong readers. We spend much of our day developing skills through working with words, learning sounds and spellings, reading aloud, writing in journals, and working on reading strategies. The students work on persuasive, informational and narrative writing as well.
In math, the kids are getting used to thinking more and explaining how they get an answer. They spend a lot of time working on learning their addition and math facts too. They love the centers, animated videos, and games that accompany the new math series. It is quite interactive!
This year we plan to incubate some eggs and hopefully get a hatch of chicks. We also plan to do a plant and weather unit in the spring.
We also look forward to Dr. Seuss Day in March!
